Bharat Ratna for PV Narasimha Rao, country's first Telugu PM

On Friday, the central government announced the conferment of the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor, upon former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. Renowned for his pivotal role in initiating economic reforms, Rao's legacy transcends political boundaries, with subsequent governments under Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh continuing his policies. His stint in formal politics began in the year 1957 when he was elected as an MLA from the Manthani constituency in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh.
